The wedding is finally over. The guests have left and you've finally checked into your luxurious bridal suite for the first night together as husband and wife. Now it's time to get packed for what will be your first vacation together as a married couple-your honeymoon. In this issue's 'Pearls of Africa' head to Tanzania for an action filled yet tranquil getaway.
Ultimately, a honeymoon should be a place of complete relaxation, nevertheless, in Tanzania, there are a multitude of activities to participate in. Enjoy a luxury camping safari in the morning, then head to the mountains for intense climbing at Mt. Kilimanjaro, and spend the rest of the day snorkeling and diving in Zanzibar. Only in Tanzania can you enjoy a romantic candle-lit dinner on the Ngorongoro Crater rim, overlooking one of the most fascinating volcanic calderas in the world. Yet, for the less adventurous, Tanzania has some of the most lavish beaches in the world.
Tanzania has a wide range of lavish accomodations in various locations, including the shores of Zanzibar, the rim of the Ngorongoro crater, and the private thatches of the Selous Game Reserve, just to mention a few. Here are a few lodges to consider:
Set upon the banks of the Rufiji River, Kiba Point is a prime location for an intimate, yet exotic experience. One of the benefits of lodging here is its exclusivity. All lodges are completely private, so activities can be done on demand with personal guides. Some of the highlights of each open and airy villa include a plunge pool and a rustic open bathroom with an outside shower.
Also located in the panhandle of the Rufiji River, is the Mivumo Lodge. Accomodations include 12 luxury bungalows fully equipped with A/C, private pools, and mini-bars. Honeymooners at this elite lodge can enjoy the full aromatherapy spa, exclusive guided walks, as well as private game drives at the Selous Game Reserve, the largest game reserve on the continent.
Mnemba, a favorite of computer genius Bill Gates, and located off the North East Coast of Zanzibar, is a honeymooners dream island. With its coral sand beaches and colorful exotic reefs, its considered to be one of the most romantic ocean destinations in the world.
Accommodations include only 10 beachside bandas, with bathrooms enclosed in coconut palm. Each bedroom is tastefully adorned with soft African prints and cushions. Besides romantic walks on the posh beaches, guests can enjoy diving expeditions, water sports, and fishing trips.
