Weddings in Grenada
Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique. Planning essentials, places to celebrate, and real weddings from the Spice Isle.
Why Grenada
A shortlist island for the diaspora couple.
Nutmeg and cocoa grow on the hillsides. Grand Anse curves for two miles along the southwest coast. Grenada carries its history openly, in the drums of Spicemas, the Big Drum dances of Carriacou, and a national dish, oil down, that is still cooked in one pot for a crowd. It is close enough for family to fly in from New York, Atlanta, Miami, and Toronto, and small enough that the island becomes part of the celebration.

MunaLuchi Bride’s issue 32 cover couple, Charity Lawson & Dotun Olubeko (from Season 20 of ABC’s hit TV show, The Bachelorette), celebrate one year of love in Grenada at Spice Island Beach Resort.
Three Islands. Three Ways to Celebrate
Grenada is a nation of three islands. Each one suits a different kind of celebration, and many couples use more than one.

Grenada
The main island
Where most celebrations begin. Grand Anse Beach, the horseshoe harbour of St. George’s, the rainforest and waterfalls of Grand Etang, and resorts built to host a full guest list.

Carriacou
For the smaller wedding
A short flight or ferry ride north. Quiet beaches, the sandbar at Sandy Island, a boatbuilding tradition in Windward, and the Big Drum Nation dance. Suited to elopements and intimate weddings.

Petite Martinique
For the escape
The smallest of the three, reached by water taxi from Carriacou. A fishing and boatbuilding community that makes an unhurried day away for the couple after the wedding.
Why couples choose Grenada
Four reasons Grenada belongs on your shortlist.
The island has the beaches. It also has the hotels, the airlift, and the paperwork to make a destination wedding work for a full guest list.
A beach with a world ranking
Grand Anse stretches for two miles of white sand on the southwest coast, and Condé Nast Traveller has ranked it among the best beaches in the world.
Hotels with MICHELIN Keys
In the 2025 MICHELIN Guide, Calabash Grenada earned two Keys, and Six Senses La Sagesse and Spice Island Beach Resort earned one each.
Family can fly nonstop
Direct flights from New York, Miami, Atlanta, Charlotte, and Toronto put Grenada within a few hours of where most guests live.
Legal paperwork in days
Couples can marry after three days on the island, and processing usually takes about two working days..
People are not travelling for sun, sand and sea because you can get that from anywhere.

Questions
Grenada wedding FAQ
Under the standard process, both of you must be on the island for three days, weekends and public holidays included, before applying for a marriage licence. Approval usually takes about two working days, longer if either of you was previously married. Couples with less time can use a special destination wedding licence, filed through a licensed wedding agent at least 30 days ahead, which requires 24 hours on the island. Your resort’s wedding coordinator can tell you which route fits your dates. Requirements can change, so confirm with the Grenada Tourism Authority before you book.
Yes. Both islands are part of Grenada, so the same marriage laws and licence apply. Carriacou suits smaller weddings and elopements. Both islands are still rebuilding after Hurricane Beryl in July 2024, so confirm venue and accommodation availability before you set a date.
Valid passports and original birth certificates for both of you, and a sworn affidavit or letter confirming neither of you has been married before. If either of you is divorced, bring the decree absolute. If widowed, bring the former spouse’s death certificate. If you have changed your name, bring the deed poll. Parental consent is required for anyone under 21. Entry requirements
December through May is the dry season and the most popular window. Hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30. Grenada sits at the southern edge of the hurricane belt, but storms do reach it, so couples marrying in those months should build flexibility into contracts and consider travel insurance. August brings Spicemas, Grenada’s carnival, a highlight for guests that also means higher demand for flights and rooms.
No. A vow renewal is ceremonial, so it needs no marriage licence, residency period, or legal paperwork. That leaves you free to choose the date, the setting, and who officiates. Many resorts offer vow renewal packages.
Maurice Bishop International Airport (GND) has nonstop service from New York JFK on JetBlue, Miami on American Airlines, and Atlanta on Delta, with seasonal service from Charlotte on American. From Canada, Air Canada flies nonstop from Toronto, with seasonal WestJet service. Carriacou is a short connecting flight or ferry ride from the main island. Share flight options with guests early and hold room blocks well ahead of peak season.
