Some love stories are not built in a single grand moment. They are built quietly, over years of friendship, daily conversations across state lines, and the steady choice to move toward each other. For Amber Smith, a hospitality professional in Las Vegas, and James Edward Smith III, a recording artist, songwriter, and producer, that process was as organic as it was inevitable. On February 22, 2025, the couple exchanged vows in an intimate elopement at Pinkbox Donuts beneath the Plaza Hotel in downtown Las Vegas. Weeks later, they were gifted something equally rare: a styled elopement shoot in Las Vegas that transformed their private commitment into a bold visual celebration of modern Black love. “The team didn’t just create a beautiful shoot,” they shared. “They told our story.”
The shoot drew its creative energy from the closing of Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter tour in Las Vegas, a culturally resonant backdrop that the team at Spectacular Affairs translated into something cinematic and deeply personal. Amber wore a Pronovias gown provided by The Wedding Plaza, its refined silhouette lending an effortless elegance to the desert city setting. James wore a tailored tuxedo from The Wedding Plaza as well, grounding the imagery in polished, contemporary style. An iconic red Corvette, sourced by Coterie Member, Luxor Wedding Films, wove a note of nostalgia and energy through the visual narrative. Coterie Member, Linda McQueen Photography captured each frame with an editorial eye, while hair stylist Dominique Hill and makeup artist Shekiera Bright ensured every detail of Amber’s look was luminous and intentional.

How did you two first meet, and how did your relationship develop?
We first met years ago in high school through church and mutual friends and remained friends for a long time. In 2022, we reconnected as adults while James was living in Los Angeles and I was in Las Vegas. What started as simple conversations quickly turned into something deeper. Despite the distance, we spoke every day and began building an emotional connection that felt natural and familiar, like no time had passed. As our relationship grew, James made the decision to move to Las Vegas, purchased a home, and we began building our life together.
James, when did you know you wanted to marry Amber?
I knew early on that Amber was special. Her heart, her strength, her femininity, and the way she loves so deeply stood out to me. When I moved to Vegas and we began sharing everyday life together, it became clear, this was my person. Watching her step into motherhood with Cairo and the way she nurtures our family confirmed it for me. I didn’t just want a partner, I wanted a life with her.

What was the proposal like?
The proposal was intimate and intentional. It wasn’t about a big production, it was about meaning. James created a space where we could reflect on our journey, our growth, and the family we were building. It was emotional, heartfelt, and very us.
What made you decide to elope?
Our love story has always been organic, intentional, and deeply personal. In early 2025, we chose to elope because we wanted a moment that focused purely on us and our commitment, without pressure or expectations. On February 22, 2025, we eloped at Pinkbox Donuts beneath the Plaza Hotel in downtown Las Vegas, sweet, spontaneous, and perfectly aligned with our personalities. It was simple, joyful, and meaningful.

Tell us about the styled shoot and what inspired it.
While our real elopement was intimate and private, we were later gifted the opportunity to participate in a styled elopement shoot created by an incredible team of wedding professionals. The shoot was inspired by Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter tour closing in Las Vegas, which felt symbolic and perfectly timed. The creative team took that inspiration and designed a shoot that celebrated modern Black love in a bold, elevated, and expressive way. It felt like a visual love letter to our journey.
How did you find your vendors, and what do you love about them?
This styled elopement shoot was a gift from an incredible group of wedding professionals, led by Spectacular Affairs, who came together to honor our love story. The creative direction and visual storytelling by Linda McQueen Photography and Luxor Wedding Films elevated the experience, resulting in spectacular imagery and cinematic film. Every element was intentionally curated, from the design and florals to wardrobe, hair, makeup, photography, cinematography, and even the iconic Red Corvette. What we loved most was how thoughtful and personal everything felt. The team didn’t just create a beautiful shoot, they told our story. It was an unforgettable experience and we are deeply grateful for the creativity, generosity, and love poured into every detail.
