Burberry Prorsum has jumped into the Ankara frenzy for their new Resort 2012 collection. The popular high-end fashion label presented unique looks for the contemporary woman and man. For their collection, Burberry Prorsum not only incorporated ankara for styles in dresses, fitted tops, high-waisted skirts, and pants but they even remade their signature trench coat! For a pop of color, Burberry Prorsum used the rich African textile fabric as a stylish underlining for their trench coats.
The appreciation for rich African textiles has increased in mainstream media from fashion runway show appearances such as L.A.M.B Spring/Summer 2011 collection to First Lady Michelle Obama’s steadfast loyalty for Nigerian designer Duro Olowu prints to major retail chains like Aldo and Opening Ceremony. Solange Knowles, Alicia Keys, Beyonce Knowles, Kendall Jenner and Dawn Richard are also looking to African fashion labels like Boxing Kitten and Jewel By Lisa for their Ankara frenzy fix! We’re curious to see which fashionista will wear the new Burberry Prorsum line! Nonetheless it’s quite safe to say that the frenzy is here to stay! Burbery Prorsum’s creative director Christopher Bailey said in a press release the change was made to honor Burberry’s iconic heritage. Today wax prints, or ankara as it’s commonly known as, have become greatly synonymous with African fashion. We love what Burberry did with Ankara. Munaluchi Bridal readers, sit back and enjoy Burberry’s take on Ankara.
