In this industrial glam anniversary styled shoot, Jennifer and Tristan celebrate three wonderful years of marriage. Having had their dream wedding in the Florida Keys, all went perfectly except for the photography. Wishing to have images of their most special of memories, a wedding styled shoot was crafted to capture the moment.

“When Jennifer approached me about doing a wedding recreation photo shoot to commemorate their upcoming 3 year anniversary, I thought it was a rather odd request. It would’ve made perfect sense as a 1 year anniversary present or even a 5 year, but what was special about 3 years? Jennifer confided that she and her husband had relocated to Dallas last year and that she has never been happy with her wedding photos. In fact, there are some photos that she still hasn’t seen until this day!
With tears in my eyes and an idea in my heart, there was nothing else that I could say besides yes! I was already planning a fabulous styled shoot and they were just the couple I needed! Jennifer’s bubbly and bright personality and the affinity for the odd, unusual, and eccentric paired perfectly with the mellow vibe that exuded from her husband. For this shoot, we used a gray monochromatic background to compliment the warehouse venue with pops of textured metals and rose gold (our favorite!). We wanted a modern industrial theme with a touch of glam.”

Wife & Husband: Jennifer & Tristan
When did you get married and where? May 15, 2015 , (Key West Florida)
What was your wedding like? We had an evening wedding at a Bali Styled private beach house, in Marathon Key, Florida, with all of our closest friends and family (100 guests on the beach).
As you celebrate your anniversary, what do you remember most about your wedding day? Jennifer: “I remember how beautiful the weather was, and how tiny our six week old son was. Moreover, the most magical memory about our wedding day for me was how perfectly the infamous DJ Fergie timed the music for our beach ceremony; it was like a movie. As our bridal party walked down the aisle to John Legend’s ‘So High,’ just before my friend Angie began to walk down the aisle, she turned around with her face covered in tears to tell me she was so happy for us and that she loved us so much, hugged me ever so tightly, turned around, and began walking. Then, the beat dropped for John Legend’s ‘All of me,’ it was my turn to walk down the aisle with my dad to meet my smiling groom. When I approached my husband-to-be, his eyes were full of tears as he proudly grabbed my hands, and I glanced at his closest friends, only to see each one of the groomsmen’s faces covered in tears. There was not a dry eye on the beach. We planned for months for this perfect moment. Once we were pronounced husband and wife, we exited to Janelle Monae’s ‘Prime time.’ It was just perfect!”
Tristan: “I remember how happy I was. I was so happy that even though my wife was running late, I wasn’t nervous at all, I was so happy and confident in this next step we were about to take, I had no other thoughts other than ‘I cant wait to see her.'”
Was there anything you would have done differently for your wedding? The one thing we would have done differently was to have gone with our initial choice photographer who was located in Miami. We instead went with a friend who did our engagement photos which we loved, but surprisingly disappointed us this time around; he did not deliver as promised. Otherwise the wedding was perfect.
What are your favorite things to do as a couple? We love to travel as a couple. Now that we are parents, we LOVE to get out and explore different places and cities with our 3 year old son; especially being in a new city like Dallas. We also love to be home cuddled up to a good movie.
Who cooks? Jennifer cooks authentic Jamaican cuisine almost daily.
Do you have any children or pets? Yes we have one son Tristan, Jr. Age 3, and our dog (Breed: shi-jion )Bridget, age 6.
When it comes to Career, what do both of you do and how do you make time for each other? Jennifer: “Family Nurse Practitioner by day, and Co-Owner of Tristan Ellison Fitness, Wedding Planner and Designer on my off hours.”
Tristan: “Founder and CEO of Tristan Ellison Fitness, USA Professional and Amateur Boxing Coach, as well as a Wedding and Fitness Photographer. Mostly we try to take at least one day off a week together, even if we are just spending it alone with each other doing work getting in-sync with administrative tasks for our businesses and brainstorming together. However, on our weekly dates, we usually try to disconnect from everything and enjoy the uninterrupted time with each other. Some days we put our toddler to bed, and turn on reruns of Martin, Fresh Prince of Bel Air, or a good movie, and laugh together until we fall asleep.”
What would you say are the most important elements for a successful marriage? Jennifer: “Unconditional love, trust, and God – if you don’t have these elements as a foundation to your marriage, anything/anyone can break your bond.”
Tristan: “Spending time with each other is vital. Just making the time to sit and do nothing, and/or do something together will make a world of difference in a marriage.”
How do you keep the spark in your marriage? We make time for each other at least once a week. Just us. Our toddler is off to school and we have a day date most weeks, which can sometimes be more romantic than the traditional night time dates. We always try to do something different, whether it be trying a new sport/ activity together or visit somewhere different.
Tell us about the shoot. What inspired it? Married by Medicine’s CEO and founder, Dr. Janell and I (Jennifer) work for the same company as clinicians. One day we were discussing the wedding planning business and began to discuss our own wedding when I divulged to her that I have yet to receive my wedding album and video from our Rochester, NY photographer. She mentioned to me that her husband was a wedding photography and together they could definitely recreate our wedding and capture the memories. I immediately jumped at the opportunity to fill this void and possibly eliminate that one blemish from our special day. Besides, what woman doesn’t want to become a beautiful bride for the love of her life all over again! I told my hubby of our idea and he was all for it.
What do you love most about them? I loved everything about the shoot/photos; the chic, industrial setting, the colors, etc. I described our style, colors and theme to Dr. Janell, and she captured our style to the “T” commemorating this magical day for our 3 year anniversary. I mostly loved that the photos capture the feeling we STILL have for each other in every photo. Photographer, Steve Wilson, was the best at making us both comfortable and allowing us to enjoy every moment. They even played our song for us to have our first dance all over again. We had a great time, and every photo was brilliantly captured.
What advice can you give for newlyweds? Be open, honest, and clear on each others’ expectations, as well as understanding to each others’ capabilities. Make time for each other. Be patient with each other. Grow together, and respect where you each are in your stages of evolution. Enjoy the journey of life together because it can get very bumpy along the way, but if you keep God first, and hold to your unconditional love and trust, you will make it to happily ever after together.
