Abbey Cher of BeYouDcor conceptualized this vintage bridal shoot after searching for inspiration showing brides with natural locs. She shares, “I could not for the life of me find many at all.” Influenced by the lack of imagery she found, Abigail set out to create her own shoot celebrating Black brides.
This styled shoot was focused on bringing the beauty of a bride with rich, chocolate skin and natural dreads to attention! We really focused on her portraying the manifestation of a black bride who has freed herself of all that often hinders us, whether it be mentally or the impositions of those who surround us.”

Set against the sprawling backdrop of Suydam Farms in Somerset, NJ, model Tanisha Sarabo is glowing. Gracefully gliding through golden fields in a silk pantsuit with a flowing silk skirt overlay, beaded veil, and natural dreads, she represents strength, beauty, and freedom.
Ultimately, this vintage bridal shoot is not only stunning but also a call to action. Abbey adds, “I was determined to do a shoot that portrayed a beautiful, chocolate Bride with natural locs and a freeing sense of self. If I felt like I needed to see that, to feel that so bad, who knows who else did?”
