Featured in Issue 33, Muna Coterie event planner Patrice Nephews of Events DownPat shared unique and sustainable flowerless wedding décor ideas for couples who have seen it all and are looking for something different.

For this special styled shoot, Nephews and her talented vendor team partnered with Half Moon Jamaica. The award-winning luxury beachfront property is committed to sustainability, which Patrice explained “is evidenced by its lush landscape and its very own ‘kitchen garden.'”

In the design, she incorporated edible centerpieces with various fruits and vegetables to create “a symphony of colors, textures, and tones for the tablescape.” She further infused Jamaica’s culture by incorporating “Tie-Dye” (called ‘Tie-and-dye’ in Jamaica) into the tablescape napkins.

Alternative, non-edible, and reusable table décor might include items that represent a couple’s shared passions. Nephews proposed, “…a couple that loves to travel could consider incorporating items such as globes, miniature airplanes, and photos and elements representing places they’ve visited together.”

As beautiful as big weddings can be, they traditionally are not the most sustainable or eco-friendly, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be. There are plenty of amazing sustainable alternatives that can be incorporated into your big day!

  • Sustainable wedding attire: Purchase a vintage or second-hand dress instead of opting for fast fashion.
  • Eco-friendly invitations: Plantable wedding invites are not only an easy fix to reduce paper waste, but also super cute and charming!
  • Potted flowers vs. cut flowers: Using potted plants as decorations is an easy and equally beautiful alternative to cut floral decor and can be replanted or gifted after.
  • Reduce food waste: Donate leftover food to homeless shelters or those in need.
  • Edible Favors: Instead of investing money into pricey favors that will likely be thrown away or wasted, give your guests something edible.

In an exclusive Behind the Brand interview with MunaLuchi, Schoenfeld shared, “Ring Bear gold and platinum men’s wedding bands only use 3% of the energy, 1% of the water, and emit 1% of the CO2 traditionally required to mine gold.”

This step also allows them to cut down on costs, selling their wedding bands for 30% less than legacy retailers.
