How they met…
We meet in Memphis, TN at a music showcase in 2013 when we both were performers.
Their first date…
The first date we went to a Mexican restaurant (one of our favorite places to eat), I wanted to show him my genuine self by taking him out for a good time and it was worth it! We laughed and talked about things we both have in common which was surprisingly interesting especially about our music!
Our proposal wasn’t the typical Grand Extravaganza but it was super romantic! It was the day after Christmas and we had been out the whole day shopping with the kids and was just getting in so my plan was to get the kids settled, shower and prepare dinner (seafood night). Joe came in and said he needed to make a stop by his aunt’s house and that he would be right back, I thought it was odd cause it was kind of late but I continued on with my plans.
I remembered after showering, having this split decision to put on my Christmas onesie before I started making dinner. About an hour had past, my best friend and I were chatting on the phone when Joe walks in. About 10 mins later my friend rushed me off the phone and I was completely blindside by Joe down on one knee asking me “since you are being a poo poo head, will you marry me”? ( that’s our thing). In that moment all I could do was say yes and cry. I was starring at my dream ring, and my dream man, when I looked up my friend was somehow on his phone to witness the moment along with my kids, one of the best days of my life!
When they knew they found “the one”…
I knew Joe was the one the moment we became friends, cause for the 1st time I actually wanted to know someone in details because he was that interesting. From the sec we met I knew he was different from any one I had ever talked to, he was patient, kind, and we had many similarities. Our bond is so beautiful, we laugh, play and talk about everything and when it’s time to be serious we sit down and communicate about it all. He showed me a lot throughout the years and for the 1st time in life I dreamed of marriage and having something to call my own.
I can always count on Valerie to be herself, she is one of the most consistent people I’ve ever met. She tries to always be up beat and positive and as an entrepreneur I needed someone like that in my corner. She is my best friend who always puts a smile on my face as well as keeps me grounded. When I reflect, I know she has made me a better person so of course I couldn’t let her get away!
Engagement session & theme…
Our engagement shoot was amazing, it was fun and the chemistry was everything! Darnell Porter was on point with location, angles and the quality of the photos are impeccable. Our theme for the shoot was meant to be timeless and classic which Darnell helped us conquer!
Favorite things to do together…
We LOVVEEE Boxing fights! Back when we live in Memphis I use to sing the National Anthem for the openings and I fell in love with fights, so from there we started a thing. If there is a fight in arms reach, we often try to attend, and we have the best time watching them!!!
Wedding planning so far…
Wedding planning so far has been a blast, we didn’t know how many small things play a part in a beautiful day until we started planning our own. We are very particular on quality so we search each vendor to find the best for our big day!
What they’re looking forward to most?
We are both looking forward to both sides of the family coming together and having a good time because we don’t get to do that often.
