Your wedding day makeup is just as important as that gown you’ve been dreaming of.
But how do you go about selecting that perfect makeup artist for you? Our Coterie member, My Juicy Looks based out of New Jersey has got some top tips for you. In this interview, we chatted with Abby about her passion for doing makeup, favorite products, and top advice for brides-to-be. She’s got some serious talent and we can’t wait to work together on some upcoming shoots!
What did you do before starting Juicy Looks?
Before starting Juicy Looks, I took a bridal makeup course at Last Looks Makeup Academy and Rouge Makeup Studio, both in NY. The knowledge and tips I gained from there has helped me to excel in the business. I also taught myself a lot of things I know now through constant studying, practice and research.
How long have you been a makeup artist?
I have been a make-up artist for about 5 years.
What motivates you?
My family, the positive people that encourage and believe in me, my drive to do more in the business and all my previous clients that were glad they chose Juicy Looks for their special day.
How would you describe your style?
My style is pretty much to keep a face as natural as possible. I am a big believer of the term “less is more” especially with bridal makeup. Brides should always look like themselves, just enhanced.
What’s the one makeup item you can’t do without?
If I have to pick one makeup item, I would say the “eyebrow pencil”. The brows are very important when it comes to applying makeup. They should be nicely shaped and filled in if and when necessary.
What would you say is the biggest mistake women make?
Wearing too much of everything, and buying makeup products that are not needed or will not be used.

What advice would you give brides when it comes to picking a makeup artist?
When picking a makeup artist, it is very important to base your decision on talent, level of work and professionalism. It is equally important that you can rely on your makeup artist to deliver what you’ve both agreed on. Always do a trial with your makeup artist to know the style of makeup that suits you. Don’t be afraid to try something new or change something you don’t like. It is always a good idea to book your makeup artist as early as possible, especially if you are getting married on a holiday weekend. Lastly, do not forget to communicate any change of plans with your makeup artist.
Why should brides choose you?
Brides should choose me because I am very professional at what I do. Time is very important to me, so I always get my brides ready in a timely manner. I always listen to what my brides want and execute. I go above and beyond with all my brides. For me, its not just about the makeup, its about looking your very best from head to toe. I am pretty flexible and able to travel to different locations.
