Trecya and Marcus’ love story began in a college math class where a study group would give them the opportunity to exchange numbers and spend more time together.
Over that time they soon realized there was much more to their connection than simply studying. A classic first date of dinner and a movie would further solidify those feelings and neither has looked back since.

How did you meet? Marcus and I met while in college taking a math class. I wanted to start a study group, so I asked for his number. If you ask him, he will tell you he asked for mine.
Tell us about the proposal. The proposal was all a surprise. He wanted to take me somewhere for my birthday. Our original plan was to go to Miami, however, his cousin was graduating college the weekend before my birthday in California, so we decided to make a trip out of it. We started the trip off in LA and ended up in San Diego the week leading up to my birthday. My parents came with us, but just met us in San Diego, and I thought they just wanted to meet up with us for our yearly family vacation, not thinking anything of it. On my birthday, May 23, he was acting very weird the entire day. That night we went to dinner at the Rustic Root with my parents, his cousins came down from LA to hang out with us there too and after there we went to Hotel Coronado. His mom and sister were the first people I saw, so I was VERY surprised that they flew from Texas to San Diego. He presented me with a photo album that had our entire 5-year relationship, at the end of the album said, “To be Continued…” and he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.
Describe your engagement session. Our engagement session was AMAZING, Iris did a phenomenal job. We really wanted to have pictures in DC, to depict the city we love and grew up in. Marcus was all about getting a picture of the Monument and Capital in our pictures, and thankfully we were able to get everything he wanted.
What did you do on your first date? Our first date, we went to a local pub called Victoria’s, we both had the Black Angus Burger, which is now our favorite burger place. We went to the movies afterward, I can’t even remember what movie we went to see, but according to Marcus it was a “chick flick.”
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple? Our favorite thing to do as a couple is to go to the movies and go out to eat. We live in Columbia, MD, so I think we have been to most of the restaurants in Columbia.
How has wedding planning been so far? Wedding planning has been really fun. I have an amazing planner, in the beginning, it was a little stressful making the big decisions like venue and date, but the decorating and catering meetings are my favorite. We are really excited to see everything we planned come to fruition, and excited for all of our guests to have a great time!
