Describe your business.
Wedding M.D. is a wedding planning service located in the lower Hudson Valley, NY. The name is a bit of a play on words. M.D. represents my name but also what I do for your wedding. Like any good doctor, I am here to help. I serve with love, joy, and fun, but I also may have to deliver a dose of medicine. I promise to make it as easy to swallow as I can.
What did you do before starting your business in the wedding industry?
I’ve worn many hats, but some notable ones are graphic designer; writer; customer support escalation specialist; and project manager at Microsoft Advertising.
How long have you been in the wedding industry?
Officially for 4 years, but I have been helping friends and friends of friends with weddings since the early 2000s.
How would you describe your style?
I would define myself as a practical romantic. I realize life’s not always a pretty story, but when it is, I love to indulge in the happiness of the moment.
What motivates you?
I want wedding days to be about the couple and I want them to remember it with fondness. I’ve seen many strong, confident, capable people get stressed out by planning their weddings. It’s a lot of work, a lot of money, and it’s important to get it right. That’s where I come in: to help relieve that stress and get to the end goal of a celebration of love.
Why should brides/grooms choose you?
I bring professional-level project management skills along with a background in communications and graphic design to help execute your wedding the way you intended it. My mission is to create a personalized event for Wedding M.D. couples by providing top-of-the line service through efficient and cost-effective planning that allows for full enjoyment of their wedding day.
How does your company define and measure success?
If my couples are dancing, laughing, and relaxing on their wedding day, then I’ve done my job. Their reactions are how I define success.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I believe that couples and their guests should enjoy their wedding day to the fullest. I love that feeling of a job well done when I see my couples relaxing and having fun with their friends and families.
Describe a proud moment while working in the wedding industry.
Making it through the covid crisis has made me very proud! Some of my couples have been waiting so long but we’re finally getting them the day they’ve been dreaming of.
What’s the best compliment you’ve received for your work?
This was hard to choose! Here’s a recent review from my bride, Tiana that I think captures the essence of what I do: “There’s a quiet brilliance to the work that Martine does. Working with her, she knew when to push and when not to push; she understood how to manage the various emotions of the day and always kept a calm demeanor which was so helpful in the long run. She really did help to make our special day truly memorable, and we’ll forever be grateful for that.”
What are your business goals?
I want to keep doing weddings and attracting wonderful couples who trust me to lead them in the right direction.
What’s your favorite part of the wedding industry?
I think weddings are some of the happiest days of someone’s life and I love being able to play a part. The endless variety and creativity that I see are a joy to behold.
Where do you find the most inspiration?
From my couples! I believe that we all set our own trends. Do what you like not what others think you should or what someone else is defining as trendy.
Is there anything else you’d like our readers to know?
I laugh a lot and with a very distinct sound almost guaranteed to make you laugh with me. Why? Because life is funny.
