Atlantis and Sergio met through a mutual Facebook friend. Atlantis saw Sergio’s profile and decided to take a chance and message him. He introduced himself, and after connecting through messages, they went on their first date and never looked back.

Sergio took surprise to a whole new level with his proposal to Atlantis. What Sergio said would be a quick flight from JFK turned out to be a surprise trip to Paris. Near the end of their magical getaway, he proposed under the Eiffel Tower.

Being the stylish couple they are, Atlantis and Sergio’s wedding was extravagant. The dark green suede incorporated throughout Sergio’s suit and decor, and the intricate beading and impeccable structure of Atlantis’s gown gave royalty. The gold details, lush greenery, white florals, and ornate castle venue also added to the royal flair of their celebration. How did you meet?

Sergio and I met through a mutual friend on Facebook. I saw a photo of him, asked who he was, and shot my shot. He responded by sending me a message and introducing himself. After a few attempts on his part to connect with me, we finally went on our first date, and the rest is history.

Tell us about the proposal.

For our 4th anniversary, Sergio surprised me with a trip to New York, but the real surprise came when our “quick flight” from JFK turned into a magical getaway to Paris. He proposed under the Eiffel Tower near the end of the trip. It was straight out of a fairytale.

Wedding Style.

Atlantis: I knew I wanted a dreamy, modern gown that hugged in all the right places and left him speechless. I chose Ese Azénabor to create a stunning ivory beaded dress with a dramatic overskirt, perfect for our castle venue. The skirt came off for the reception, revealing a sleek, sexy silhouette. Every dress appointment was out of state, and having my mom by my side made the experience unforgettable.

Sergio: I  opted for timeless elegance with a deep green suede blazer that perfectly tied into our black and green wedding theme. During the reception, I switched to a suede red blazer that not only symbolized my love for Atlantis but also showcased my affiliation with Kappa.

Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding day?

Sergio, who is Haitian, used the reception to honor his roots with vibrant, culturally significant dances that celebrated Haitian tradition. As a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi, he also serenaded me with his fraternity brothers, singing a special sweetheart song dedicated just to me. A beautiful blend of culture and love.

What is your favorite memory from your wedding?

Our last dance was to “Voyage to Atlantis” by The Isley Brothers. While everyone waited for our exit, we had a quiet moment just for us, dancing, locked in each other’s eyes, soaking in our first moments as husband and wife with no one watching. It was pure magic.

What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples?

Have the hard conversations now so they’re easier later. Communicate about everything. Planning can be difficult, but don’t let wedding details overshadow your connection, and above all, lead with love in everything you do.
