The sun couldn’t have shone any brighter on Gillian and Patrick’s wedding day. The beautiful bride, inspired by Belle of Beauty and the Beast, donned a gathered white ball gown as she stood lovingly next to her strapping husband. “We would see each other regularly and finally in 2011, we started dating. We enjoyed spending all of our free time together very quickly. We both knew pretty fast that we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together,” Gillian shares of how they met. They married on a radiant day in July. Lush greenery surrounded guests as the happy couple officiated their love at the West River Event Centre.

Tell us all about the proposal!
In 2013, we took a trip to Italy and this is where Patrick proposed. We went out to a restaurant one evening and he was able to get me outside for a moment. When I went back into the restaurant, the lights were out, I thought the power went out, white candles were lit throughout the restaurant. Before I could wrap my head around everything, I heard a violin and saw Patrick down on one knee. To say the least, I was in shock and overwhelmed, but knew without a doubt that my answer was YES!
Describe your wedding dress style and your shopping experience
I knew that I wanted a big pouffy dress because this is always what I had envisioned for myself since I was younger because I loved the yellow dress that Belle wore from the movie Beauty and the Beast. Another thing I knew for sure was that I wanted some bling up top and a big skirt that flowed nicely.
Wedding shopping wasn’t too stressful. I am a pretty indecisive person, but having my mom with me made the process much easier. I knew that she was also excited for this day, as I’m sure most moms are when it comes to their daughter getting married. Therefore, if she liked the dress as much as I did, then I knew it was the perfect one for the day. So, on the first day, second store, probably about 8 dresses later…we found the dress!
What is your best memory from your wedding day?
Our best memory from the wedding was the ceremony. The anticipation leading up to this moment and nerves all disappeared when we both saw each other. We were both full of emotion and excited to say “I do.” Not to mention, the beautiful garden and being surrounded by our closest family and friends, making the atmosphere that much more breathtaking.
How was culture incorporated in your wedding day?
We found a way to incorporate some of our family culture into our wedding. Our parents are of Jamaican decent, and we have grown up loving and embracing the culture. Therefore, we made sure to include jerk seasoning on the chicken, beef cocktail patties at the late night food table and definitely made sure to include reggae music on the dance floor.
What advice do you have for our brides-to-be?
We say, after getting engaged, take time to enjoy it. We took a few months to just get use to having a fiance(e), before we even started to think about wedding colors, dresses, location etc. When it comes to getting ready for the BIG DAY, try not to stress too much and make sure that you guys are following your heart and desires when making decisions. Try not to compromise your vision, unless it’s with your new hubby/wife to be!

What a beautiful wedding! I love the yellow bridesmaids dresses and the photos look amazing. For my wedding, I asked Nuova Vita, if I could use this stunning gold fabric I found for my bridesmaid gowns and they said yes! So, they hand-made the gowns using the color I wanted. I was pretty surprised, since its an online store. Only one week to go before I get married, you could say I am more than excited!!! Congratulations on your beautiful wedding.
