Mohammad & Janet’s Intimate Long Island City Wedding at American Brass

Mohammad and Janet chose to honor their love story exactly as they have lived it: with intention, intimacy, and an appreciation for the beauty in simple moments. Their May wedding in Long Island City, New York, brought together the warmth of American tradition with the artistry of henna, creating a celebration as refined as it was personal. The reception at American Brass provided an elegant backdrop for their 2025 union, while Janet’s tea-length Allure Bridals gown from Ivory & Main offered a timeless silhouette that felt entirely her own.

The couple’s journey began, as so many modern love stories do, through a digital connection that quickly revealed something deeper. Their shared passion for travel and quiet moments of togetherness shaped a romance built on understanding rather than spectacle. Janet’s tea-length ball gown, thoughtfully hemmed by the seamstresses at Ivory & Main with fabric reserved for a future baptism gown, captured this same spirit of meaningful detail. Delicate henna tattoos adorned the bride, while Merolyn of HTTS Floral and Event Design framed the celebration in refined white blooms. Ein Photography documented the day with care, from the nervous excitement of their first look to the joy of their first kiss as husband and wife.

Ours isn’t a story of spectacle,” Janet reflects. “It’s a quiet epic, written in moments both big and small.

How did you meet?

Like many modern romances, ours began with a message on a screen, but what followed was anything but ordinary. From the very first exchange, there was something about Mo that stood apart. He spoke softly, with a kindness that felt familiar, and carried a quiet warmth that instantly put me at ease. I didn’t know it then, but I had just met the one who would become my compass, my calm, my home.

Our conversations quickly became the rhythm of my days. I remember being on a trip with my sisters, staying up late just to hear his voice. Those twilight hours, filled with laughter and easy silences, linger in my memory. That’s when I knew: this wasn’t a passing connection. I was falling, gently, deeply, and all at once.

Travel has always been our shared language. One of our favorite memories took shape in the sunlit south of France. I joined Mo on a spontaneous trip, and in a gesture that still melts my heart, he offered to cover my ticket. That single act revealed so much: his generosity, his thoughtfulness, and his ever-open arms. From winding roads to quiet train rides, passport stamps to local street food, we’ve explored the world and each other with wonder and intention. I chase sunsets; he finds joy in stillness. Together, we’re perfectly balanced, a harmony in motion.

Tell us about the proposal.

Mo proposed in the most us way imaginable: no fanfare, no script. Just the two of us, standing in our kitchen, in the soft glow of ordinary life. No elaborate plans, only a moment that felt perfectly ours. That’s the heart of our love: it’s real. It lives in shared looks, spontaneous laughter, and the comfort of simply being together. It’s a love not made of grand gestures but built on small, steady truths.

Describe your wedding attire. What was the shopping experience like?

I had a clear vision of a tea-length dress, a style I find timeless. Finding the perfect dress was challenging until I visited Ivory & Main, a bridal boutique specializing in plus-size women. The head seamstress introduced me to an incredible ball gown by Allure Bridals. When she suggested hemming it to a tea length and using the remaining fabric for a future child’s baptism outfit, I was instantly convinced. Their patience and collaboration made the experience wonderful.

Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding?

We had an intimate American-style wedding, beautifully accented with henna tattoos on the bride.

What is your best memory from your wedding?

Mo’s favorite moment was the first look, filled with excitement and nerves. I cherished the moment we were pronounced husband and wife and shared our first official kiss.

What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples?

Our advice is to plan a wedding that truly reflects the bride and groom. Remember, the wedding is all about celebrating the love between you and your partner with those who matter most to you.
