Blush and lavender tones, along with elegant floral patterns, created a romantic atmosphere at Sheekha and Parth’s traditional Hindu wedding in Newark, New Jersey. Their celebration continued into a vibrant reception featuring both western and Indian fashion, with deep blue and purple tones that reflected the couple’s layered, joyful personalities.
Sheekha and Parth first met through the dating app Dil Mil, sharing a first date in New York City that began with brunch and ended at the iconic Joe’s Pizza. Exactly one year later, Parth recreated that evening and closed the night with a proposal in front of Jane’s Carousel, overlooking the Brooklyn Bridge.
From the intimate pre-wedding rituals to the grand Baraat entrance, their wedding was a heartfelt celebration of culture, family, and the beginning of a new chapter together.
Couple: Sheekha & Parth
Wedding Date: July 13, 2024
Wedding Location: Newark, NJ
How did you meet?
We matched on a dating app called Dil Mil and met up in New York City for our first date in May of 2022. We had brunch at Baar Baar, walked around the city, and ended at the iconic Joe’s Pizza.

Tell us about the proposal.
Exactly a year later, Parth recreated our first date and ended by proposing in Brooklyn right outside Jane’s Carousel overlooking the Brooklyn Bridge.

Wedding style
We wanted to keep our wedding events tastefully simple while still incorporating vibrant Indian colors. Parth DIY’d all of our event welcome signs, which were all unique and beautiful. Our favorite wedding day detail was the custom gift boxes placed on each seat for the ceremony. The boxes contained masala mixed nuts for guests to snack on during the ceremony and a QR code on the side of the box which would take guests to our digital wedding program when scanned.
“Their mandap altar was draped in soft fabrics and delicate pink and white flowers, creating a natural, effortless beauty against the wooden beams.” — Chandai Raghunauth (Chandai Events)

Describe your wedding attire. What was the shopping experience like for you?
We both wore traditional Indian attire for the Sangeet, Grah Shanti, Haldi, and Wedding events. For the reception, Parth wore a tuxedo, and Sheekha wore a custom Indian lehenga from a designer in Mumbai called Bharti’s. We had the most amazing time shopping for our outfits in India — we made two trips to Mumbai to shop and have them altered.
“Sheekha’s gold-embroidered cream-colored bridal ensemble required two trips to Mumbai, where she carefully selected her wedding outfits and had them perfectly tailored. Adorned with dazzling jewels in her headpiece and necklace, she completed her look with red flowers tucked into her low bun hairstyle.” — Chandai Raghunauth (Chandai Events)

Culture
As Hindus, we both wanted to incorporate cultural and religious traditions throughout all of our events. We had a traditional Sangeet event and Haldi event prior to the Wedding ceremony. The Wedding ceremony itself started with the Baraat leading up to the Hindu ceremony.
What is your best memory of your wedding?
Parth: My favorite wedding day memory was my big entrance with my friends and family during my Baraat where we were welcomed by Sheekha’s side. I really enjoyed seeing our friends and family have an amazing time together.
Sheekha: Some of my favorite memories include the dance performances at the Sangeet, my cousins stealing Parth’s shoes during the Baraat, and the scrapbook made by my bridesmaids, which they gifted to me while we took our getting-ready photos the morning of the wedding.
“For the reception, the color palette shifted to romantic blues and purples, changing the energy of the evening. Parth changed into a sleek tuxedo, while Sheekha wore a custom sky-blue lehenga, fully beaded with feathers along the shoulders and a dramatic cape-like fabric draping from the back.” — Chandai Raghunauth (Chandai Events)

What is the best advice you can give to engaged couples?
Enjoy the process — once it is over it almost feels like there is a void in your life. Wedding planning became such an integral part of our day-to-day routine. We took our time to do our research and evaluate all of the options before making our decision. Guests really appreciated the attention to detail.
