A “Royal” Purple and White Wedding by A Little Bit of Whimsy Photography: Katrina and Wayne

After years of dating, Wayne knew he had found his queen and Katrina her king. So, it was only fitting that this lovely couple have a regal wedding, full of fabulous design elements that perfectly complemented their wedding theme of “elegance and royalty.”  For their décor, the couple went with the classical royal hue of purple, wowing guests with violet flowers, uplighting and linens, which were complemented by pops of white and red.  During their ceremony a dancer gracefully glided down the aisle captivating guests with her elegance, and setting the tone for Wayne and Katrina’s heartfelt vows. However, nothing was more spectacular than the bride Katrina, who looked like a true princess floating down the aisle in her ceremony gown that included a drop waist and layers of ruffles.  Even though this couple had a truly refined wedding, they showed that royals can still have fun. During their reception, Wayne happily jumped into the DJ booth and got everyone on their feet including Katrina who changed into a second wedding dress, so she could dance the night away. A Little Bit of Whimsy Photography captured all of the charm and excitement of the Pierce’s majestic nuptials. This regal wedding has been shared with our friends at Ebony.com.

The Proposal

The Proposal took place at Morton’s The Steakhouse in Philadelphia, PA on October 5, 2012. On this day I asked Katrina if we could ride to work together since we both work in the city. We usually have our dinner date night on Friday so I told her that we were going someplace special that evening. Despite her efforts of trying to influence me to tell her where we were going, my response was, “have a good day”. During that day I contacted the General Manager at Morton’s and asked if he would allow me to propose at the restaurant, and he agreed. I further explained that Katrina is under the impression that I am planning a birthday dinner for her in November and it would be perfect if we could tour the private dining area and I could propose at that time. Well, he agreed to play along. That evening I pick Katrina up and tell her where we were going and her response was, “that’s what I thought”. Anyway, we arrive to Morton’s where the General Manager greets us and shows us to the private dining room. Upon the conclusion of the tour, I asked if he could leave us alone for a few moments to discuss head counts and the menu. Katrina seemed really excited about having her birthday dinner at Morton’s in DC (doesn’t exist, I checked). He leaves and Katrina and I start to walk the room again. I asked her to try one of the chairs for comfort as they didn’t seem to look comfortable. As she sits down and before she could look up I was on one knee with ring in hand. After she finally was able to compose herself, she said yes making me the happiest man alive! Right on cue, the General Manager enters the dining room with a camera and Champagne in hand. What a great moment that was and dinner was also fantastic.

Description of Event

The planning process was great because I had the best wedding coordinator to help assist me with everything.  Diane George from Covenant Wedding is one of the best in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.  She’s very understanding personable with the bride and groom and we have a close friend for life.  My wedding theme was elegance and royalty.

Wedding Style

My wedding style is elegance and royalty. My ceremony gown was by Galina Signature from David’s Bridal, and my reception gown was by Las-Marey from House of JonLei Atelier.

My experience shopping for my ceremony and reception gowns were fun, emotional and breathtaking.  My wedding coordinator Diane George from Covenant Weddings came with me to shop for my ceremony gown and she suggested that we go to David’s Bridal which I hesitated a little, but I really trust her judgment.  Diane was aware that I was looking for the perfect gown–a princess type with lots of ruffles and elegant.  While at the bridal salon, we looked through several books and I pointed out a dress and they had me to try it on.  I knew that was the dress without hesitation when I tried it on.  My wedding coordinator’s reaction was wow and she said that my face was glowing.  For the first time, I really felt like a bride and a princess.  The entire shop was watching me and speechless as I walked through the salon.  Of course, I said “Yes to the Dress” on that day and never looked at another gown again.

My experience shopping for my reception gown was very exciting.  For my second gown, I wanted something different and fun for the reception.  I finally found it after searching for several months which this gown was everything I wanted and more for my reception.

My advice for brides-to-be is to first hire a great wedding coordinator before planning anything.  Your wedding coordinator will be able to help assist with your planning from beginning to end.  He or she will also have recommendations of vendors they have worked with in the past as well experiences with them.  My wedding coordinator and I spoke everyday which gave her chance to get to know me and my husband- to- be and our personalities.  There were times that my wedding coordinator would suggest and make decisions on my behalf because she got a chance to know what I liked and disliked about certain things.  I really appreciate my wedding coordinator being patient and understanding of me because being a bride can be overwhelming and exciting at the same time.  Finally, I would say to all brides-to-be to please enjoy every moment of planning your wedding and know that the most important aspect is that you and your husband-to-be will be finally united as one and be happy together as husband and wife forever.

Most Memorable Moment

The most memorable part of my wedding was when our pastor announced us as husband and wife for the first time “Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Pierce”.

 Loving You is Easy

From the GroomIt’s very difficult to describe just one thing he loves about me.  He would say that I am very caring.

From the BrideIt’s very difficult to describe just one thing I love about him.  I would say he loves spending time with me.
