Beach Front Wedding at Oak Island Country Club in North Carolina: Devin + Will

In life we have to play the cards we’re dealt, for Devin and Will it was a winning hand that started their love story. “I used to work part-time as a server/bartender at Cuban Revolution in Durham. One of the servers I worked with invited me and a few others over to play a game of Spades. We were waiting on one more player, Will, to arrive. We played a game of Spades, and Will and I won,” Devin shares. That win sparked further conversation between the two. Will was instantly titillated by Devin’s full-time profession as an educator and Devin was intrigued by his blatant excitement; a recipe for an abiding love.

The couple said “I do” in a beach front wedding at the Oak Island Country Club. The fun and insouciant event had the energy of young love. Turquoise accents added a vibrant pop of color to the sandy backdrop. Coterie member Lady Iman Photography captured the images of this exuberant affair.

I did not want the typical wedding dress. The day my friends and mom went shopping I made it very clear to everyone that I didn’t want a super long train and nothing that looked like Cinderella. I wanted something sexy and fitting to my body shape. My dress was silk, ivory. I love things with a revealing back, so the back of the dress was important. I loved the keyhole back because it didn’t reveal too much, but it was different and cute. My dress was form fitting and allowed room for me to be a traditional bride with her own style.

What is your favorite memory of your wedding day?
No one tells you how fast the actual wedding day goes. The best memory of the day was saying my vows because I meant every word and my photographer, Kafi, did a great job capturing the moment of some of the most important words I will ever say in my life.

How was culture incorporated in your wedding?
We did incorporate the “jumping the broom.” Will is from New Orleans, so a second line was a must, which was completed during the reception.

What advice would you give to our brides-to-be?
The best wedding advice I can give any couple is to stick together and don’t stress too much with all the minute details. Everything will go its own way.
