Lara and Josh’s eclectic multicultural wedding took place at Fisk University, with the reception immediately following at Marathon Village in the fun and sophisticated city of Nashville, TN. Blending the traditional and nontraditional, the gorgeous couple had a ceremony they’d love to relive over and over again.

Tell us about how you met and all about the proposal!

Josh and I met through a mutual friend that happened to be my best friend and someone Josh grew up up with. I know it sounds cliché, but it was love at first sight. Nicole, my best friend, hadn’t seen Josh in a couple of years and wasn’t sure if it was him that she saw in Downtown Nashville, so she sent me over to see if it was him and it was. I never went back over to her because Josh and I started a conversation and didn’t stop. After a couple months of playing hard to get, I finally gave into the persistent pursuit of him asking me out on a date. I never looked back since. You can watch our proposal video here.

Honestly, I wasn’t too excited at first to go wedding shopping. On top of everything else that is involved with wedding planning, it made me feel overwhelmed. Looking through magazines, there are so many choices! I knew I wanted something untraditional, something different, and definitely something comfortable. I decided to go to a local wedding dress shop called The Dress Theory and fell in love with every gown in there. They were so beautiful and the staff made me feel comfortable with their one on one attention. After looking through the dresses, I knew I found the one. Theia’s “Elsa” gown made me feel sexy, confident, elegant, and comfortable all in one. And to top it off, it’s a convertible dress!

For a symbol of unity, Josh and I decided to jump the broom.

Memories

There isn’t a day that goes by that I wish it was our wedding day again. Josh and I wanted to see each other before we walked down the aisle. We are each other’s best friend, and there was no way we could go all morning without seeing each other. I will never forget the moment he turned around and saw me as his bride.

Don’t do anything just to please others! This is your day and in my book, you only get one so do what makes you and your husband happy.
