Sometimes those closest to us may perhaps know us even better than we do ourselves. An outside perspective offers one the ability to view a person or situation in total. It is exactly this perspective that provided a mutual friend of Melanie and Ameche to believe that they would make a good couple. According to Melanie, “they were so right about us!”

It was, as they say, “love at first sight,” on that first date of dinner and dancing. Melanie recalls how Ameche made her laugh the entire evening, and she also couldn’t help but notice how good of a dancer he was – owning both the dance floor and her complete attention that night. From that point on they became a permanent part of each other’s lives, and as their commonalities continued to be revealed, so did their feelings for each other continue to grow.

Over the years they talked about marriage and looked at rings but when it came time for the proposal, Melanie was caught completely off guard… It was Melanie’s birthday and Ameche took her out for a lovely dinner at Oceannaire, an elegant top-of-the-catch seafood restaurant, just the two of them. If you were to ask either of them what they ate on that special evening neither would be able to provide a concrete answer, for even though the food was delicious, it would not be the most memorable part of the night… As they finished their meal, Ameche, leaning towards Melanie, looked into her eyes and asked her to spend the rest of her life with him as he revealed the most gorgeous of rings. Tears filled her eyes as she responded with an absolute yes.

This would not be the end of what was already a life-changing evening. Followed by the proposal another surprise awaited, a surprise birthday party attended by their friends and family. Family that traveled from both New Orleans and North Carolina to celebrate this most special occasion. They danced and laughed the night away.

For Melanie, “wedding shopping was fun at first and then overwhelming. I ended up picking a small shop, the Atlanta’s Virginia Highlands, Suite Bridal. The ladies there were sweet, patient and welcoming. I definitely preferred this type of shop as compared to the larger more glitz and glam shops.” Melanie said yes to a fit and flare dress with two layers of lace and beautiful buttons along the back. After several trips to the seamstress the dress was a perfect fit.

Culturally, Melanie’s family is from New Orleans so they incorporated many traditional elements associated with NOLA culture. Elements such as beautiful cake-pulls, charms layered into the base of the cake – pulled up by the attending single ladies. And of course, a NOLA event is not complete without a fantastic second-line band.

What is your best memory from your wedding? The best memory I had was walking down the aisle and seeing my future husband and family there to share in our moment. As I walked down the aisle the room was absolutely gorgeous and all the people that I loved were there, a fantastic memory.

What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples? Take your time and take in the moment. It is your moment. Don’t be distracted by the details of planning or what went right or wrong. Embrace the love in the air and support of all the people that care so much for you. Most of all, have fun!
