She’s a Southern belle who left her small town in Mississippi for the city. Growing up in the south, Shante always followed the saying, “If you want a good man, go to church.” After making the big move to the city, she discovered that the saying doesn’t always hold true. Nowadays Shante says “attend a few Home Owners Association/Community meetings” to find a good man! It was actually at a HOA meeting at her new condo in DC where the lovebirds met. Three years later during a visit back home to Mississippi for her brother’s graduation, Derrick proposed.
On what aspect of the wedding mattered the most…
“It was important to me that Derrick and I stayed grounded through the planning process. I didn’t want us to argue and have disagreements. I wanted us both to enjoy the moment….and that we did! “– Shante
“I wanted to make sure that I provided as much support as possible throughout the process. I didn’t want to be the typical groom who only takes on the task of showing up.” –Derrick
Shante and Derrick were married at the Sandals Resort in Antigua. The theme was “Beautiful Beginnings.”
On the process of selecting wedding vendors…
“We decided to have a destination wedding because we’d previously attended my best friend’s wedding in Ocho Rios and loved it. As far as the photographer, there was no other option except for Mr. Troy Woods…we absolutely had to have him photograph our wedding (and engagement). Troy did a fabulous job at capturing each and every special moment of the day and we were more than satisfied with the outcome.” -Shante
“Planning our wedding was one of the easiest things we’ve ever done (together). We were in agreement throughout the entire decision making process…DESTINATION weddings are the best!” -Shante
Advice from the couple…
“(from Shante): Always remember that their wedding day is a special day that they will cherish and reminisce for many years to come. Planning can become very stressful because everyone will gladly provide their thoughts and opinions on what your special day should include, so be sure not to get “lost” when this happens and make sure you’re planning your wedding in the best interest of you and your fiancé’.” (from Derrick): “When planning for a wedding be sure to plan for your marriage as well. Go though marriage counseling, read books on marriage, talk to other happily married couples. Take time to reflect on what brought you to the point of wanting to be married to that person. Remember, you are getting married to enjoy a lifetime with them…not just to enjoy them for a wedding day.”
