Everybody knows that medical school is absolutely no joke. It has to be one of the most grueling programs ever put together – ever. Medical students come into school extremely apprehensive because they know that they are about to embark on one of the most challenging journeys of their lives – and that’s putting it mildly. Not many walk in with the expectation that they will meet the person who they will fall in love with – forever. Toni’s and Ugochukwu’s meeting during their orientation would lead to a new friendship, a romance and another journey. This time, it would be a journey of heartfelt love that would lead them to begin the most important and faith-filled journey of their lines: the journey to oneness and togetherness forever.
This sweet day was captured by amazing photographer, Donald Yeager. Be sure to check him out!
Bride: Toni O’Reggio
Groom: Ugochukwu Egolum
Occupations: Resident Physicians at Vanderbilt University Medical Center
Date and location of wedding: May 21, 2011 – Nashville, TN
The First Encounter …. “Ugo and I met on the 1st day of medical school during orientation, we sat beside each other in our classes. Little did we know that over a year later and after getting through the 1st year that we would see the beginnings of a new romance, new adventure and new journey together. Having lasted through the trials and tribulations of medical school and now through with the dreaded intern year of residency we decided to take that next step.”
The Proposal …. “It was a January winter evening in DC. Ugo planned a nice evening out at a restaurant downtown called Art & Soul in the Liaison Hotel near Capitol Hill. This was followed by a visit to Jefferson Memorial where (while I was admiring the facade) he got down on 1 knee and stated that this was where he was going to make a declaration; he was going to “declare” his love for me in the memorial dedicated to an individual who authored another very important declaration, the Declaration of Independence. His brother got the whole thing on video! It was beautiful.”

The Planning Process ….. “My number one challenge was staying within budget which ended up not happening (purely by choice) and I look back every time at all the memories and it’s so worth it! Other challenges included trying to find the time to buy the gown or have those vendor meetings to make those final decisions especially trying to finalize a DJ who could play Jamaican and Nigerian music- not something you see everyday in Nashville! Also, 99% of my guests were from out of town so trying to get RSVPs on time or invitations to my guests took time and was difficult. In terms of decor, I came up with the colors (Tiffany blue and carnation pink) and Ugo came up with the theme (Travel) because we love to travel. We had boarding passes for Save the Dates and passports from Stylish Scribe which everybody loved! The flowers were perfect and beautifully arranged by Brocade Designs. For our reception each table had a postcard as the table number which had a picture of us and a caption of places we’ve traveled to together. It all came together perfectly thanks to our wedding planner!”
The Perfect Planner, The Perfect Photographer ….. “Personality and organization! We went back and forth between having the wedding in Jamaica vs. here in Nashville. We had just moved from DC and didn’t quite know Nashville yet so when we finally decided to have it in Nashville we met with 4 planners and Opulent Couturier seemed like the best fit. Little to say we were very happy with our choice, professional, great to work with and the wedding day was an absolute breeze! It’s so nice to sit back, relax and enjoy the day. For our photographer, our planner recommended Donald Yeager Photography which worked out perfectly! We had met with 2 and he was the second one; our personalities fit perfectly and I felt he could capture our day the way we wanted and he did! Our pictures were high quality and we were very happy with his work. Both our planner and photographer were reasonably priced and provided professional work in a relaxing comfortable environment, I couldn’t have asked for better!”

Unforgettable Memories …. “The conga line! Now, that was fun but it would have to be our first dance together as husband and wife. The song “God Gave Me You” and just being caught up in that moment where it’s just you and him was priceless.”
{Loving You is Easy…}
