Arielle and Jamari first met through Instagram. Jamari slid into Arielle’s DMs and after some persistence, they talked on the phone a few times and exchanged texts, which led them to go on their first date in Brooklyn.

On the day of the proposal, Arielle noticed Jamari was acting strange but didn’t have any suspicions that he would propose. She almost refused to go to dinner with him, when her friends convinced her she should go, knowing what surprise was in store. After a lovely meal, Arielle was surprised when she returned from the bathroom to find Jamari on one knee!

Arielle and Jamari’s wedding was a classic black-tie affair with dramatic fashion and lux decor. Arielle’s dress featured floral beading, a detachable train, and a two-piece fit and flare, which added to the romance and drama of the look. To compliment Arielle’s gown, Jamari wore a custom white and black tux with embroidery and black trim.

How did you meet?

We met through Instagram. Jamari slid into my DMs and was very persistent in trying to get to know me. After a few phone conversations and text message conversations we finally went on our first date to a restaurant in Brooklyn. Since that first date, we have been inseparable.

Tell us about the proposal

We got engaged at a restaurant in the city called Quality Italian. The engagement almost didn’t happen because I refused to go anywhere with him because he had been acting differently all day.

I had stopped at the mall to pick up a few items and my friend convinced me to go, not knowing minutes before he was also in the mall showing her the ring. Eventually, everyone convinced me to go to dinner.

After an excellent meal and a few drinks, he convinced me to go to the bathroom because we had a long drive home. Once I returned from the bathroom, he was down on one knee and asked me to marry him.

Black-tie wedding style

My dress was from Leah da Gloria, the Boheme collection, from Bridal Reflections. The dress was a two-piece fit and flare with floral beading all around the dress. The dress had a detachable train which brought an extra sense of drama and romance to the look. Jamari’s suit was a custom Billionaire New York. His suit featured a white embroidered jacket with black trim.

Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding?

We both come from a Caribbean background so it was very important for us to bring that culture into our wedding. Each guest was provided with a Jamaican flag upon entry to our reception. Due to our wedding being labor day weekend, we also decided to incorporate the steel pans as well as the carnival dancers.

What is the best advice you can give to engaged couples?

The best advice to give engaged couples is to do what makes you happy. Many people have different opinions on how your wedding should be. They tell you a lot of information but offer very little assistance. At the end of the day, it is your day and you will only have this moment once. Do what you and your spouse feel is best for you and you will enjoy this special day to the max.
